Upper Dolpo Trek

Upper Dolpo Trek is an overwhelming fascinating trekking destination in the Himalaya part of mid-west of Nepal where we will able to walking in the complete wilderness in the harmony of pure nature on this unspoiled and untouched area of Nepal. You will able to freely explore the region in dry weather without worrying about the rains as the regions. The trail crosses three relatively high passes, good paths are followed throughout and there is no trekking on the glacier. It is an area to difficulties to access Himalayan valleys in the northern part of Nepal. The remote and rugged protected areas are both scenically and culturally attractive. In this trekking, the trekker will experience the real adventure of trekking on an off-the-beaten-trail, composed of steep sloppy hills. The trek will take us through the protected area and leads us through us to amazing Phoksundo Lake which is surrounded by flora and fauna. This offers us actual lifetime adventure on off-the-beaten-trail experience and located in the culture west Himalayas in Nepal. We get an opportunity to see a superb combination of mountain views, high passes, beautiful landscapes, and beautiful lakes with Tibetan Buddhism. This is one of the most beautiful districts in the remote Himalayan part of Nepal.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

When you will land in the international airport in Kathmandu then there will one person from our company to take-off you. You will directly drive towards the hotel to check out. At night you will meet your guide and counsel about the trip. And have our dinner.

Day 02: Fly to Nepalgunj 1 hour

If the hotel is able to make breakfast we will have our breakfast then after we will drive towards the local airport of Kathmandu valley to fly towards Nepalgunj. Upon 1-hour fly from Kathmandu valley, we will check out the hotel and explore all around the valley and spend one night.

Day 03: Fly to Jhuphal and trek to Dunai (2,850m) 2-3 hours

After spending one night in Nepalgunj, we will fly towards Jumla. After 20 minutes flight from Nepalgunj, we will reach Jumla which is also the capital of the Karnali Zone and a gateway for trekkers who want to explore the remote Karnali region of Nepal. And after reach in Jhupal, we will slowly move towards Dunai where we will spend one night.

Day 04: Trekking to Ankhe (2,896m) 5-6 hours

The trail passes through an area which is overgrown with Marijuana plants but also has crops for the villagers. We will have our lunch on the way then after we will slowly move towards Ankhe where we will spend one night.

Day 05: Trekking to Sulighat 5-6 hours

Our trails ascend and descend along a wooded riverbank and climb on a steep trail. We will have our lunch on the way then after we will slowly move towards Sulighat where we will spend one night.

Day 06: Trekking to Phoksundo Lake (3,611m) 4-5 hours

The trail leads upwards through terraces lands with rice fields that seem impossible green. It is an enjoyable day in preparation for our further destinations to come.  And we will spend one night in Phoksundo Lake.

Day 07: Rest at Phoksundo Lake

This day is for the rest day that’s why we don’t start our trekking. Early in the morning after wake up, we will have our breakfast then after we will explore all around the Phoksundo Lake. At this day, we will explore villages and get an opportunity to spend some time in the lands which feel better and mental makeup for further trekking or journey.

Day 08: Trekking to Phoksundo Khola 4-5 hours

This picturesque trail is suspended on a gangway of wood supported on pegs. Today the trail moves towards Phoksundo Khola from Phoksundo Lake. On the route, we will have a chance to see the wonderful views of the mountain and beautiful landscapes.

Day 09: Trekking to Phoksundo Bhanjyang 6-7 hours

The trail which leads us along the level path through a glacial valley which heads due north and there is no trail as such. We will have an opportunity to see the wonderful views of the mountain and beautiful landscapes. On the route, we will have our lunch on the way then after slowly move towards Phoksundi Bhanjyang where we will spend one night.

Day 10: Trekking to Shey Gompa (4,500m) 5-6 hours

While doing this day trek, we will have an opportunity to see the wonderful views of the mountain, beautiful villages. We will cross many suspension bridges before reaching Shey Gompa where we will spend one night in this wonderful land.

Day 11: Rest at Shey Gompa

This day is for the rest day that’s why we don’t start our trekking. Early in the morning after wake up, we will have our breakfast then after we will explore all around the Shey Gompa. At this day, we will explore villages and get an opportunity to spend some time in the lands which feel better and mental makeup for further trekking or journey.

Day 12: Trekking to Namduna Gaun (4,800m) 6-7 hours

Today we will move towards Namduna Gaun from Shey Gompa after having a hot breakfast. We will have an opportunity to see the natural beauty of this wonderful land. We will have our lunch on the way then after taking some rest and slowly move towards Namduna Gaun where we will spend one night.

Day 13: Trekking to Saldang (3,620m) 4-5 hours

The trail is dusty and the views come of the barren landscapes. We will explore the red stone monastery and the red monastery is built against the backdrop of a cliff on the north wall of a gorge.

Day 14: Trekking to Yangze Gompa (4,960m) 4-5 hours

After having breakfast in Saldang, we will slowly move towards Yangze Gompa. We will have our lunch on the way then after slowly towards Yangze Gompa where we will spend one night.

Day 15: Trekking to Sibu (4,560m) 6-7 hours

We pass various Chortens and Mains walls that signify the mythical prowess of the local spirituals people. There is also another monastery on the top of a high cliff. And we will spend one night in Sibu.

Day 16: Trekking to Jeng-la Phedi (4,900m) 5-6 hours

The trail winds through the village and climbs ridge topped by a large Chorten and then climbs gradually past an impressive Mani wall. After 5 to 6 hours walking we will reach our destination and first of all will check out the hotel and explore all around the valley and spend overnight.

Day 17: Trekking to Tokyu Gaon (4209m) 5-6 hours

We will leave Jeng-la Phedi for Tokyu Gaon. It takes almost 5 to 6 hours to reach Tokyu Gaon and in the time of 6 hours journey, we have an opportunity to see the wonderful views of the mountain and beautiful landscapes.  We will have our lunch on the way then after slowly move towards Tokyu Gaon where we will spend one night.

Day 18: Trekking to Dho Tarap (4,040m) 4-5 hours

While doing this day trek, we will have an opportunity to see the wonderful views of the mountain, beautiful villages. We will cross many suspension bridges before reaching Do Tarap where we will spend one night in this wonderful land.

Day 19: Rest Day at Dho Tarap

This day is for the rest day that’s why we don’t start our trekking. Early in the morning after wake up, we will have our breakfast then after we will explore all around the Do Tarap. At this day, we will explore villages and get an opportunity to spend some time in the lands which feel better and mental makeup for further trekking or journey.

Day 20: Trekking to Tarap Khola (3,800m) 6-7 hours

We walk along juniper and wild roses bushes just above the tree line. The local people descend with their castle searching the grazing meadows in the winter. You go through the narrow gorge with the rivers rushing through.

Day 21: Trekking to Khanigaon (3,150m) 4-5 hours

We continue to walk down the gorge of the Tarap River. The quality of the path varies from the board, smooth and firm to very narrow and crumbly. Before reaching Khanigaon, we will pass through many bridges and beautiful landscapes.

Day 22: Trekking to Tarakot (2,537m) 4-5 hours

The walking trekking in Upper Dolpo Trek from where we will walk from Khanigaon to Tarakot. We will have our lunch on the way then after slowly move towards Tarakot where we will spend one night in this beautiful land.

Day 23: Trekking to Dunai (2,140m) 5-6 hours

The day starts with a gentle climb. We will pass through the lush forest of rhododendron, oak, and we will have an opportunity to see the animals like Langur, red panda, and Himalayan black bears etch before reaching Dunai where we will spend one night.

Day 24: Trekking to Jhuphal 2-3 hours

Our trail descends and passes through the lush forest of birch. On the route, we will have an opportunity to see the wonderful views of the mountain, and beautiful landscape. We will cross many suspension bridges before reaching Jhupal where we will spend one night.

Day 25: Fly to Nepalgunj and then to Kathmandu

From Jumla, we will move towards the local airport to fly towards Nepalgunj. After 20 minutes flight from Jumla, we will reach Nepalgunj and we will have our lunch and drive toward the airport to fly towards Kathmandu valley. Upon reach in Kathmandu valley, first of all, we will check out the hotel and spend some time around the Thamel Bazaar and spend one night in this wonderful valley.

Day 26: Final departure
