Ganja La Pass Trek

Ganja La Pass Trek is one of the most challenging treks in the Kathmandu Valley. The trail climbs gradually through the Langtang Khola and passes a dense cluster of bamboo, maple, oak, and pine. These treks are adventurous and unique among treks in the Langtang region. During the trek, we will have an opportunity to see wonderful views of the mountain, beautiful landscapes, and awesome natural scenery. We will  see an old monastery on the route and get glorious views of the villages and the pristine Himalayas as well. The trek itself passes through gorgeous rhododendron and bamboo forest with magnificent vistas of snow-capped mountains. At the time of trekking, we will pass through a Tamang village and have a chance to learn about the culture, traditions, and lifestyle of Tamang people who are the local inhabitants. This route is also known as the closest trekking destination from Kathmandu Valley. The trek passes through pristine countryside and flora and fauna, as well as yak pastures, and the trek is on the journey to the wilderness Himalayan in one of the wildest trekking in Nepal.

Ganja La Pass Trek is a serious undertaking and requires the use of some technical equipment and an experienced guide. The trekking begins from Sybrubesi after 8 to 9 hours of scenic drive from the Kathmandu Valley. This trek combines a unique and one of the best trekking trails in the Langtang Himalayan region. This region offers an opportunity to explore ethnic villages, the oldest monasteries, a small peak, and a glacier at comfortably low elevations. During the time of trekking, we have a great chance to see the wonderful views of the mountain which includes Langtang Lirung, Gang Chhenpo, Naya Kangri, Yala Peak, and many other popular mountains of this route. We will enter the Langtang National Park which is known as the home of many rare birds, animals, and local flora. Most of the people in this route are influenced by Tibetan Buddhism.  The route is not well developed ,but the natural beauty of this land makes your journey more enjoyable and the warm welcome by the Tamang people makes it memorable. The best time for trekking is from February to May and from September to December.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

Day 02: Drive to Syabrubesi (1,550m) 7 hrs

Day 03: Trek to Lama Hotel (2,380m) 6 hrs

Day 04: Trek to Mundu (3543m) 6-7 hrs

Day 05: Trek to Kyangjin Gompa (3,870m) 3 hrs

Day 06: Trek day in Kyangjin Gompa

Day 07: Trek to Ganja La Phedi (4300m) 5-6 hrs

Day 08: Cross the Ganja La pass (5122m) and heading to Keldang (4250m) 6-7 hrs

Day 09: Trek to Yak Kharka (4000m) 5-6 hrs

Day 10: Trek to Tarke Gyang (2,590m) 5-6 hrs

Day 11: Trek to Sermathang (2,610m) 3-4 hr

Day 12: Trek to Malemchi Pul Bazaar and Drive to Kathmandu 3-4 hrs

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

When you land at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu then there will be a representative from our company to pick you up. You will drive directly to the hotel to check in. At night you will meet your guide, get advicel about the trip, and have dinner.      

Day 02: Drive to Syabrubesi (1,550m) 7 hrs

Upon morning breakfast, we will drive toward Syabrubesi. On the route, we will have an opportunity to see the wonderful views of the mountain and the lush forest of rhododendron. Before reaching Syabrubesi, we will have an opportunity to explore around the Chilime Hydropower which is under the hills, and then spend one night in this wonderful Sherpa land.

Day 03: Head to Lama Hotel (2,380m) 6 hrs

Today is the first-day of trekking in the Langtang region where we walk from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel. The suspension bridges along the trails gradually ascend up to bamboo passing by a landslide. We have our lunch on the way, and then after that move towards Lama Hotel where we will spend one night.

Day 04: Head to Mundu (3543m) 6-7 hrs

The day starts with a gentle climb. We will pass through the lush forest of rhododendron, oak, and we will have an opportunity to see the animals like Langur, red panda, and Himalayan black bears etch before reaching Mundu where we will spend one night.

Day 05: Head to Kyangjin Gompa (3,870m) 3 hrs

The trail winds through the village, climbs a ridge topped by a large Chorten, and then climbs gradually past an impressive Mani wall. After 3 hours of walking we will reach our destination, check into the hotel, and explore all around the valley and spend overnight.

Day 06: Rest day in Kyangjin Gompa

This day is for the rest day.  After breakfast, we will explore all around the Kyangjin Gompa.  We will also explore villages and have an opportunity to spend some time in the monastery which provides the mental makeup for further trekkingy.

Day 07: Head to Ganja La Phedi (4300m) 5-6 hrs

The path makes a final steep ascent to the pass and then the trail descends steeply and enters the Yangri Khola Valley. We will have an opportunity to explore the beautiful valley of the route, pass through the lush forests and beautiful valleys, and get an opportunity to see the wonderful views of the mountain.

Day 08: Cross the Ganja La pass and heading to Keldang (5122m) 6-7 hrs

In the early morning around 4 o clock, we will start our trekking. early because today we will cross Ganja La pass. After crossing Ganja la pass, we will have our lunch, and then we will slowly move towards Keldang where we will spend one night.

Day 09: Head to Yak Kharka (4000m) 5/6 hrs

We descend further down following a prominent ridgeline. The trail passes through pine, oak, and rhododendron forest. We will also pass through many suspension bridges before reaching Yak Kharka where we will spend one night.

Day 10: Head to Tarkegyang (2,590m) 5/6 hrs

This trail passes a Stupa and crosses a small steam below Tarkeghyang. After 5 to 6 hours walking we will reach our destination and first of all will check out the hotel and explore all around the valley and spend overnight.

Day 11: Head to Sermathang (2,610m) 3/4 hr

Today the trail passes by the beautiful village of Chorten, and its Monastery. It takes almost 3 to 4 hours to reach Sermathang from Tarkeghyang. After reaching Sermathang, we will check in at the hotel, and then explore all over the valley and spend a wonderful night.

Day 12: Head to Malemchi Pul Bazaar and Drive to Kathmandu 3-4 hrs

Early in the morning after having breakfast we will walk towards Melamchi Bazaar. After reaching Melamchi Bazaar, we will have our lunch and then slowly drive towards the Kathmandu Valley. Upon reaching Kathmandu, we will check in at the hotel and spend some time around the Thamel Bazaar, and spend one night in this wonderful valley.

Day 13: Final departure

We will drop you towards the international airport with the hope that you have had a wonderful visit in our small country. We will also be hoping that this will not the last chance to serve you.
