Ampu Lapcha Pass Trek

Ampu Lapcha Pass Trek is one of the most challenging trekking destinations in the Everest region, located in the Khumbu region. The trek to this pass is through the upper Hongu Valley. Trekking on this route is not only famous for the high Himalayan summits but also famous for historical sites. The trail also includes Chukkung Valley which requires technical climbing type of equipment and skilled trekkers to use the equipment. The trek will lead you to an awesome adventure-of-a-lifetime experience. We spend several days trekking and interacting with the local people while staying in local lodges and teahouses. We will climb one of the most fascinating trekking peaks in Nepal in the most renowned of all the trekking routes around the globe. Trekking in this region is a revered and adventurous activity and one of the greatest opportunities to truly experience the country’s many attributes in their finest form. Ampu Lapcha Pass Trek is intriguing forthe trekkers who love mountains, not only for the high Himalaya summits but also famous historical sites. This trek also includes the Chhukkung Valley which requires trekkers to have technical climbing experience. You will able to experience the highest Himalayas on the earth and also explore the Namche Bazaar. The trek begins from Lukla after a 30-minute mountain flight from the Kathmandu Valley. The area is blessed with awe-inspiring scenery, turquoise blue lakes, glacier, and monasteries. It is a combination of  trekking and climbing, dramatic views of the mountain peaks, diverse geographically; rich culture, alpine vegetation, flora and fauna with some endangered animals. Most of the area of this route is not so well developed, but the natural beauty of this land, along with the warm welcome by the Sherpa people, makes your journey unforgettable. We will have a chance to explore or to enter Sagarmatha National Park which is the home of many rare birds, animals, flora, and fauna.  The best time for trekking is from March to May and from September to December.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

When you will land in the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu there will be one person from our company to pick you up. You will be taken directly to your hotel to check in. At night you will meet your guide and review your  trip and have dinner.      

Day 02: Fly to Lukla and trek to Paiya (2,730m) 5-6 hours

After having breakfast in the hotel, we will slowly drive towards the airport for a scenic flight to Lukla, known as the gateway to the Everest region. From Lukla, we will start our trekking on foot. We will slowly walk towards Paiya where we will spend one night.

Day 03: Trek to Panggom (2,846m) 5-6 hours

We follow the descending route until a small bridge and continue through a slippery route to cross Kari La Pass. During the time of trekking, we will be on a jungle trail, crossing a bridge over the Handi Khola before reaching Panggom where we will spend one night.

Day 04: Trek to Ningsow (2,863m) 4-5 hours

This valley is very  popular for bird-watching. We climb uphill and walk on a steady path and turn north. On this day of trekking, we will walk through the forested route of rhododendron and bamboo on a narrow path  before reaching Ningsow and where we spend one night.

Day 05:  Trek to Chhatra Khola (2,800m) 7-8 hours

Today the trek starts with a descent crossing meadows and fields. You will have good views of the peaks as you drop down through rhododendron forest on the far side of the pass. We will have our lunch on the way and then take some rest at Chhatra Khola where we will spend one night.

Day 06: Trek to Kothe (3,691m) 6-7 hours

This trail passes a stupa and crosses a small steam below Kothe. After 6 to 7 hours of walking we will reach our destination, check into the hotel, explore all around the valley and spend overnight.

Day 07: Trek to Thaknak (4,358m) 3-4 hours

The day starts with a gentle climb. We will pass through the lush forest of rhododendron and oak, and we will have an opportunity to see animals such as Langur, red panda, and Himalayan black bears before reaching Thaknak where we will spend one night.

Day 08: Trek to Khare (5,045m) 2-3 hours

We descend further down following a prominent ridgeline. The trail passes through pine, oak, and rhododendron forest. We will also pass through many suspension bridges before reaching Khare where we will spend one night.

Day 09: Rest day in Khare

This day is for the rest day. Early in the morning after wake up, we will have our breakfast and then after we will explore all around Khare.  We will explore villages and have an opportunity to spend some time in the high altitudes, helping our mental makeup for further trekking.

Day 10: Trek to Mera High Camp (5,780m) 6-7 hours

The steep trail is boulder-strewn to reach Mera High camp. From the trail, we will have an opportunity to see wonderful views of the mountains which includes Mt Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. On the way, we will have our lunch and slowly move towards Mera High Camp where we will spend one night.

Day 11: Summit Mera then trek to Kongma Dingma (4,850m) 10-11 hours

In the early morning, we will start our trekking towards Mera Base Camp. We begin crossing the Mera Base Camp on a steep trail all the way up the ridges of the passes. After crossing Mera Base Camp, we will have our lunch then after slowly move back towards Kongma Dingma where we will spend one night.

Day 12:  Rest day in Kongma Dingma

Early in the morning after wake up, we will have our breakfast and then explore all around Kongma Dingma. It will be helpful to rest before further trekking.

Day 13: Trek to Seto Pokhari (5035m) 5-6 hours

While doing this day trek, we will have an opportunity to see the wonderful views of the mountain and beautiful villages. We will cross many suspension bridges before reaching Seto Pokhari where we will spend one night in this wonderful land.

Day 14: Trek to Amphu Labcha Base Camp (5,650m) 5-6 hours

Early in the morning after having breakfast, we will slowly move towards Amphu Labcha Base Camp. We will have wonderful views of the mountain, beautiful village, and many suspension bridges before reaching Amphu Labcha Base Camp where we will spend one night.

Day 15: Trek to Chhukung (4,750m) 9-10 hours

This will be one of the most difficult yet rewarding days of the trek.  The ascent is demanding, but the climber gets the magnificent mountain views. We will walk on a fairly steep trail at a comfortable pace.

Day 16: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,438m) 5-6 hours

This day trekking trail goes slightly uphill to Namche Bazaar. We will have an opportunity to explore the beautiful valley of the route. We will pass through the lush forest and get an opportunity to see the wonderful views of the mountain.

Day 17: Trek to Lukla (2,800m) 6-7 hours

This is the last day of trekking in the Everest region where we will walk from Namche Bazaar to Lukla. The trail passes through pine, oak, and rhododendron forest. We will also pass through many suspension bridges before reaching Lukla where we will spend one night.

Day 18: Fly back to Kathmandu

In the morning, if the hotel is able to make breakfast then we will have our breakfast and slowly move towards the local airport of Lukla to fly towards the Kathmandu Valley. Upon reaching Kathmandul, we will check into the hotel , spend some time around the Thamel Bazaar and stay one night.

Day 19: Final departure

We will drop you of at the Tribhuvan International Airport with the hope that you have had a wonderful experience in our small country. You will have wonderful memories of a safe journey with beautiful and adventurous days in Nepal . We will be hoping that this will not our last chance to serve you .
